Canada Youth Chamber Orchestra
Currently, Samuel Choi is the Music Director of the CYCO Since 2019, CYCO has offered high level qualities of orchestral training to string students under 20 years old. Students of the CYCO work with distinguished coaches and conductors on a weekly basis every Monday evenings.
Current and former coaches of the CYCO have been members of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Ontario Philharmonic Orchestra, St. Paul Chamber orchestra, Edmonton Symphony Orchestra and other professional orchestras. The orchestra is divided in to 2 categories. The Senior orchestra and the Junior orchestra. All the members of the CYCO go through a placement audition in the beginning of the school year.
The orchestra is committed to challenging students to develop leadership skills, sense of rhythm and musicality, technicality and the ability to perform as an ensemble player. Throughout the year, students perform in multiple concerts where they perform some of the most staple classical music repertoires as well as movie soundtracks. In March 2023, members of the CYCO travelled to Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia where they performed a joint concert with the Selangor Philharmonic Orchestra and the Selangor Philharmonic Youth Orchestra.
